Dr Lydia Trippler
I am a field epidemiologist with expertise in implementing interventions against schistosomiasis as alternatives to traditional interventions and evaluating their feasibility and their impact on the reduction of schistosomiasis prevalence. I am passionate about finding interventions that are effective in decreasing Schistosoma transmission but are also adjusted culturally and feasible locally.
I joined the Lamberton lab in July 2024 as part of an interdisciplinary team for schistosomiasis research. Here, I combine my Bachelor's background as a health economist to evaluate schistosomiasis interventions and my interest in geospatial analyses to assess the impact of interventions on schistosomiasis infections and quality of life.
I obtained my PhD from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) in Basel, and the University of Basel, Switzerland. My research involved extensive fieldwork on the Zanzibar islands, Pemba and Ungja, United Republic of Tanzania. During this time, I worked closely with the Public Health Laboratory – Ivo de Carneri and the Ministry of Health.
